Friday Favorites

It’s been a hot minute since I did one of these posts! Here’s what I’m digging this week . . .

You guys.

Justin Bieber Live in Manila 2011

Yes, I went there.

Seriously. All of your sweet comments, tweets, and emails earlier this week when I was bummed about the haters and then when I was just bummed, well, they meant a lot. And they reminded me that for every hater out there, there are so many more supportive, thoughtful, wonderful friends. So thank you thank you thank you for being the bestest readers in the whole wide world. OK, all done. We’re not going to sing Kumbayah or anything here. But thanks.

Sweet Cherry + Island Lime Trident Layers

IMG 20110816 121824 1

Ob-sessed. I’m usually a mint gum kinda gal, but I picked this up on a whim, and I can’t stay away from it. It’s fruity, but not in a gross bubblicious kind of way. And it has this awesome freshness to it. Buy some. You’ll see.

That’s right: it’s doggy day care, but just for Vizslas! When I saw this sign last Saturday, I knew it was meant for me. So little Roo is playing her heart out with Gatsby the boy Vizsla today. Boyfriend???

Rehoboth Beach

Charlotte Day 1 013

OK, I haven’t actually been there yet, but I’m really looking forward to a beach weekend with my mama in August! I can’t wait to get out of town for a few days, shop–it’s tax free in Delaware!!!– and lay in the sun. Plus, I love me some QT with mom!

My breakfast burrito from Circa last weekend. YUM.

Brunch is like, a thing here in DC. You can get brunch everywhere, and I’m a fan. I hope Paula‘s down, because I plan to drag her to brunch both tomorrow and Sunday. And she will like it.

Paying Off My Car

I paid off my credit card last month, and this month, I just paid off my car. Student loans, I’m comin’ for ya!

What are you loving this week???

Friday Favorites

Hey hey it’s Friday!

Haven’t done a Friday Favorites post in months, so I think it’s high time, don’t you? Let’s get to it then!

Favorite mid-season return: Cougar Town (<–That’s an article about Courteney Cox that I adore)

Oh, Cougar Town, I missed you. Thank you for coming back. Please don’t ever leave me again.

Favorite new show: Smash

Are you watching this? Because you should be. I promise it’s not Glee (thank God). I can never pass up Debra Messing. And as much as I don’t want to like Katherine McPhee, she’s awesome in this.

Favorite running-related article: Yasso 800s

Want to run a 3:30 marathon? Just run half mile repeats in 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Yep, that’s the theory behind incorporating Yasso 800s into your training plan. Check out the link above if you’re interested. I might not do this for my first marathon, but I’ll keep in in mind for New York in the fall!

Favorite read: Bright Side Up

I read about this book on Rachel’s blog a couple of weeks ago and immediately pre-oredered it. I’ve only started to read it, but so far, I’m in love! Since I seem to require a little help in the happiness department, I love that Amy’s book gives you practical ways to appreciate what’s right in front of you. If one won’t work, don’t worry, there are 99 others to try. Highly recommend you check it out!

Favorite face: this one.

We’re on day 3 of no accidents in the house! (Which means she’s somewhere peeing right now . . . )

Favorite recipe you’ll have to wait for: French Bread Pizza with Caramelized Chicken and Mushrooms

Oh my heavens. YUM.

Favorite foodie ingredient: Coconut Milk

So delicious beverage hg unsweetened

Kind of obsessed with this stuff. It makes oatmeal and smoothies creamier, and it’s only 50 calories per cup! Plus, it’s rich in magnesium, helps prevent anemia, and decreases the risk of joint inflammation. You should probably run out and buy some right now.

Favorite coveted item: North Face Arctic Parka

I have a long walking jacket that I wear to take Roo for walks in this frigid weather, but she seems to think it’s a toy and has already torn multiple rips in it with her little puppy teeth. This would be an acceptable substitute for my ratty (ripped) Target coat.

Favorite Ab Workout: The Ab Portion of Lindsay’s FLOW post for today.

It’s full of planks, which happen to be my favorite for abs. I just did one round through and it took about 10 minutes–definitely keeping this in the rotation!

What are your favorites this week?

OK, I’m going to be a little mushy today.

On a personal level, I’ve been a little blue for the last month or so, and I’m really trying hard to power through it and keep it off of the blog as much as possible. I just want all of you to know that I think you’re great. You might not know it, but reading your blogs makes my days so much better. So thanks for writing them–they make me happy! And those of you who comment? I adore you, too! Thanks for caring enough to read my little old blog! Y’all are the best!

Just had to get that out.

Onto other things . . .

I love reading everyone’s Friday Favorite posts–this is a trend I really enjoy around the blog world. Since I’m feeling the blog love today, I wanted to share my favorite posts from around the blog world this week.

1. Nightmare Before Christmas Cookies on Annie’s Eats

How fun are these? Annie has a lot more talent for these types of things than I do, but I love how these came out!

2. Winged Eyeliner at A Cup of Joe

Joanna is the cool New York girl I always wanted to be after college. Love her blog.

3. Monster Mint-Chocolate Chip Cupcakes at Chocolate Covered Katie

A healthy cupcake with a holiday theme? Yes, please!

4. Michelle’s generational TV post . . . it reminded me how much I used to love Life Goes On.

Oh, how I wanted to be Becca Thatcher with the hot Jesse McKenna for my boyfriend. Good, wholesome, early-90s entertainment.

5. Paula wrote about Halloween Anxiety . . .

although I have no idea why because all of her costumes were super fun and creative! I could totally relate to this, though. I never put all that much thought into my Halloween costume, but then I panic the week before and worry that I won’t have anything to wear. I love to dress up, though, so I always figure something out.

6. Pretty much everything Rachael says, but especially this.

Why hide the truth, right? #twinsies

7. Jessica of How Sweet It Is is usually trying to kill me with brown butter and bacon (which I’m not at all opposed to), but I loved the looks of this, too.

Roasted Autumn Panzanella Salad? Hello! Plus, she is hysterically funny. Read that post. Make that salad (for me). Thanks.

8. Kristin of Iowa Girl Eats made meatloaf cupcakes with mashed potato frosting.

I know. I usually make my meatloaf in muffin tins (Party of One friendly!), but this takes it to the next level. Not that I’m surprised. Kristin is pretty much a genius.

9. The always darling Lindsay of In Sweetness and in Health shared some great stress relievers, including dancing it out.

I need to do this more often. Plus, is that scene from the Proposal not one of the funniest things ever???? How can you not laugh at that?

10. Beautiful Claire shared a recipe for Pumpkin Granola.

Now I just need her to come make me some. ;)

11. Rachel Wilkerson wrote one of the most interesting posts to me: Beauty Booty: My First Weave.

Truly, I don’t really understand all that goes into caring for a black woman’s hair (or a half black woman, in Rachel’s case), but I was completely fascinated by this! In case you’re curious, you should totally check it out. Doesn’t she look amazing???

Happy Friday, blog friends!!! Thanks for making my days brighter! :)

What was your favorite post this week???

Friday Favs—Travel Edition (Kinda)

Soooo, no Therapy Thursday yesterday. I was running like a crazy person all day long with meetings all day in DC and a delayed and bumpy flight back to Michigan last night. Needless to say, by the time I finally got to the airport in DC, getting myself a glass of wine and some food at the airport bar took priority over blogging. I tweeted instead. Smile

My blogging BFF responded, so I shared this with her as well.

Airport romance? I think not. To escape, I went in search of my favorite airport treat, only to find they didn’t have it.

It was truly a traumatic travel experience. Winking smile

Anyway, I do have a great Therapy Thursday topic weighing on me, but I’m going to save it for y’all (sorry, I miss the South) until next Thursday.

I know. The anticipation might kill you.

{Incidentally, anyone else have this game for the original Nintendo??? Man, I loved that game!}

Onto my favorites for the week!

Michael Vartan

OK, maybe he’s a favorite for every week, but Michelle mentioned Alias the other day, and it got Mr. Vartan on my mind. I’m not really one to salivate over celebrities, but I’ve had a crush on this guy for about 10 years. No biggie.

White Bookcases

Let’s be real: I’m coveting a lot about this room: the soft blue walls, the different styles of chairs, the white and silver accents. Honestly, though, decorating isn’t exactly my strong suit, so my chances of executing this kind of cuteness in my own home are pretty slim. The bookcases, though? I can definitely do that. I’m thinking I might need them in my new home office. Love the clean lines.

Everything on How Sweet It Is

I’ve been reading Jessica’s blog for a really long time—it was one of the first I started following—and she is hilariously adorable. But not only does she have pretty much the cutest personality ever, she makes insanely delicious concoctions. Seriously. Go to her blog and see if you can leave without being hungry. Oh, and that milkshake up there? It has Jack Daniels in it. INSANE!

Tempo Runs

Fall 2010 23

Because I’m totally crazy. Wednesday’s run this week was a tempo run on the treadmill, and I.FREAKING.LOVEDIT!!!! I even ran an extra half mile at the tempo pace because I was enjoying it so much. Yes, I realize I may need to be committed.

Sampling the Local Fare

Duh. New policy: branching out in my dinner choices when I travel. I don’t love going out to eat alone, but it’s stupid to miss out just because I don’t want to go somewhere by myself.

Ann Taylor Ads

To be clear, I am not a fan of Demi Moore. She comes off as overly pretentious, and it just bugs me. I do admire her ability to seemingly not age—that is sheer magic—but otherwise, she doesn’t really do it for me. These ads, however? Gorgeous. If this came in a bottle, I would buy it. I could settle for the wardrobe, but I’m not quite sure I could pull it off. Oh, and the price tag isn’t encouraging, either. But still—prettyful.

Wine + Crafts

I am one of those people who wants desperately to be crafty, but I just don’t have it in me. This project, however, I do think I could pull off. Since my last initial is ‘W,’ I’m thinking I need to make one of these. Time to start collecting corks! Better get drinking. Open-mouthed smile

Oh, poor Johan. If you need a laugh, this is the place to go. I dare you to go check it out and NOT laugh out loud. Dare.

challenge accepted

Oh, and I have one little confession before I go . . .

Couldn’t resist. Winking smile

Have a great one, friends!

What are you loving this week???

Friday Favs

Friday! Friday! Friday! Friday! (<—that would be my excited for Friday chant, in case you wondered what the hell I was doing)

I have a lot of work to do today, but it’s ok because it’s almost the weekend! Weeeeeee!!!

Here’s what I’m loving this week . . .

Matt Nathanson—Faster

I can’t help but turn this up and sing along. Such a happy, fun song! Admittedly, he doesn’t look all that cute in the video (IMO), but I still love the song.

H&M for Home

hm home

Did you know H&M has a home store now? I love this adorable shower curtain and the coordinating towels, but sadly it’s only available in the UK. C’mon H&M. Can’t you ship it to me? Pretty please???

New Girl

Please watch. Or if you’re not going to, I will for you. I’ve already watched the first episode at least 3 times. Obsessed, much?

The jeans I ordered last week from Express came in the mail, and they are PERFECT!!! So, they make this week’s list again. The fit is fantastic—so much so that I’m thinking about getting another pair. The only problem is that they are essentially a chastity belt in jean form. Not that it’s an issue because I’m obviously not getting busy all the time, but when you have to go to the bathroom and there are 5 buttons to contend with, it’s a little bit of a problem.

Tilted Bowls

tilted bowls

How fun are these?!? I want to buy about a gazillion of them.

Bridesmaid Wine

bridesmaid wine

Since I’m always a bridesmaid, I guess this is fitting for me, right??? Honestly, though, this is such a delicious big red. Lots of layered flavors. YUM!

White Dishes

white dishes

Oh, Crate and Barrel, you tug at my heartstrings. I have been wanting white dishes for a while now, but these are my absolute favorites. Simple. Clean. Pretty. Want want want!!!

Cornbread Topped Chili in a Jar

cornbread chili

Kristin is a genius. I dated a guy once who had never heard of having cornbread with chili and thought it was weird that I liked it. That was obviously a dealbreaker.

Furry Things

I am obsessed with the idea of incorporating a furry rug into my bedroom at the new condo. I have hardwood floors in my bedroom, and I think it would be so nice to have a furry rug underfoot when I get up in the morning.

Almond Butter

I have been having a serious love affair with this almond butter with roasted flaxseeds from Trader Joe’s. Yesterday afternoon, I realized I’d missed my AB fix for the day and got a serious jones for it. I think I’ve eaten it in some form almost every single day for the last month. Highly addicting.

What are you in love with this week???

Friday Favs

I love all the Friday Favorites posts, so I thought I’d do a little version of my own today! Without further ado, here are my favorites for this week! Open-mouthed smile

Boca Java Coffee

I order my coffee from Boca Java, an online retailer that roasts your coffee to order and ships it right to your home. They have the best flavored coffees—including that Maple Bacon Morning!—and I love the convenience of having it delivered every 8 weeks. Yum!

Magic Hat #9

I don’t know if it’s the cooler weather or what, but this rich IPA is speaking to me . . . Mmmm . . .

Stenciled Walls

This appeals to the Type-A in me like you wouldn’t believe.

Twice Baked Butternut Squash

As soon as I feel brave enough to cut open a butternut squash again, I am definitely making this. Fall on a plate, ya know?

Red Hair, Red Lip, Blue <3

Someday I will rock a red lip. Or not. But so pretty here, don’t you think?

New Jeans

I had a little online shopping spree last night. What can I say? Dark flares speak to me.

Cool quotes

Kelly posted this a while back, and I just love it. Maybe I’ll make it into a print for my home office when I get my new place?
