Things I’m Looking Forward To

{unoriginal post title stolen from Paula}

Wait . . . what??? A Sunday post? It’s been a HOT minute since I posted on a weekend, so I thought I’d mix it up and surprise you all with a little lovin’–and some random tidbits I’m particularly excited about in life right now.

Honestly, as good as things are with my move to DC, there are several things that are really hard right now, too. They’re pretty personal, though, so I’ve decided to keep them off the blog for the time being. I’ll take any positive thoughts you’d like to throw out into the universe on my behalf, though. ;) One thing I’ve learned is in the midst of tough stuff, it’s really important to find things in life that make you happy or excited or whatever just to get through, well, if not the day, then the next 10 minutes . . .

The answer is no. You can never have too many filters.

I am BEYOND excited to report that Paula is coming to visit me in 2 short weeks!!! Since my trip to Miami in January, she and I have pretty much become BFFLs and email back and forth about 40 times a day. And now, we get to spend a whole weekend being obsessed with each other!!! I cannot wait to see her, feed her drinks, and parade her around DC like the arm candy she is. I hope the people of DC are ready for this because I have a feeling it’s going to be ridic. Totes ridic.

Milli Vanilli

Milli vanilli

Yesterday I spent an embarrassing amount of time downloading ridiculous 80s/90s music on iTunes, but my favorite purchase was easily Milli Vanilli’s Blame it On the Rain. I had the cassette of this back in the day and used to rewind and replay this on my walkman like it was going out of style. Then I put on my slap bracelet and played on my pogo ball. Bonus points if you are old enough to know what either of those items actually are. Anyway, other random happy-making purchases included Motownphilly, Do Me!, Let’s Hear it for the Boy, and My Boo. I will not apologize for any of those choices.

Basil Peach White Sangria

Please excuse my dirty patio wall.

Friday night, I needed sangria. Yes, needed. I threw some together using this stuff:

$3 buck Chuck, a Peach-Pear La Croix (SO good), about 1/2 cup sliced basil, and one sliced peach. Mix. Drink. Done.

A Visit From My NYC BFFL!

NO. No, we had not been drinking in this photo . . . OK, maybe just a little ;)

Even though I just met Erica through work a couple of months ago, I feel like I’ve known her forever. We instantly bonded over our Michigan roots and love of dogs (she has THE most adorable bulldog, Mona), so I’m ecstatic that she’s extending her “work trip” to DC next week and staying the weekend! Can’t wait to spend some more QT with her and do all manner of touristy things around town.

TRINIDAD

Trinidad

While I am SUPER excited for my upcoming visitors, I’m at least as excited that I’m going to be in Trinidad for my birthday in January! After Corey‘s visit in April, she invited me to visit–how could I resist! So we’re planning my trip, and I couldn’t be more pumped! I can’t even tell you the last time I took a real vacation. While it’s still 6 months out, knowing I will be spending my birthday in paradise makes me ridiculously happy. Plus, those of you who’ve been reading a while know that I’m not a huge fan of my birthday. I’m pretty sure it will be impossible to have a bad time on my birthday if I’m in Trinidad, though! I mean–that pic is her freaking back yard. I can’t wait, Corey!!!

Marathon Training

Nycmarathonbadge

Next week, I get to start marathon training. I was basically devastated back in February when I got injured halfway through my first attempt at training for a marathon. My goal this time is to train smarter–hydrate, fuel my body properly, and take the rest days I need. I also plan on making sure I get in my strength workouts and doing plenty of stretching and foam rolling. The physical medicine doc who fixed me after my injury gave me a set of exercises to do to keep my back/hips in alignment, so I’ve got to be committed to doing them so I can stay healthy! More than anything, though, I’m looking forward to the training itself. I’m a very goal-oriented person and tend to do better when I have something I’m working toward. The marathon’s just the thing I need to focus on and keep me positive.

Sooooo . . . yeah. Even though there’s a lot of tough stuff going on, there’s a lot of good stuff, too!

  1. That sangria looks awesome, perfect summer beverage. I cannot find the Peach-Pear LaCroix anywhere! I have only seen it in 6 pack bottles but I’d rather have the cans. So delicious.

You & Paula are going to have so much fun in DC!! :)

  2. so many awesome things to look forward to!! trinidad sounds amazing! i’m so excited for you to start your marathon training too. it sounds like you’ve learned a lot about your body and what it needs this past year, so i’m sure it will be great!

  3. wow I had no idea you were running a marathon! Way to go girl, I can always join you on some of those longer runs if you need a buddy, hint hint nudge nudge. That sangria looks divine, absolutely refreshing. I hope whatever you are going through those close friends coming to visit will help you out. I think you are one amazing woman and I am so glad to know you through blogs and in person!

  4. I’m trying not to be super jealous that you guys get to hang out without me. What am the 3rd wheel? (don’t answer that:)) I’m also annoyed that I haven’t come to visit DC since you’ve moved me. It’s like my work is purposely trying to keep me from you and is sending me to St. Louis instead. I do, of course, hope you guys have fun!

Also – that sangria looks good. Might have to try it soon!!

    • Wait wait wait. When do you go to St. Louis??? I have a trip there at the end of the month. Perhaps we can rendezvous????
