Celebrating the 4th in our nation’s capitol is pretty sweet. I mean, when your morning run takes you by the White House and you go to a BBQ in Capitol Hill, it’s hard not to feel patriotic.
I also got to watch the fireworks from my building’s rooftop, which was equally cool.
Admittedly, I am horrible at taking firework photos, but hopefully you get the idea.Â
I also made a some new BFFLs on Tuesday night at happy hour–yes, more girlfriends! And these girls are even my age! Winning! It’s not that I don’t like the younger friends I’ve made–quite the opposite, actually. Everyone I’ve met has been fantastic! But it’s also nice to connect with some people who I can relate to a little better.Â
We bonded over happy hour at Cava, a tapas restaurant in Capitol Hill.Â
Those are fries with feta and tzatziki. Insane. And $3. Unheard of in DC. I also had a mini chicken gyro and some harissa, which is a spicy spread, with pita. So so good. There was also a nice heavy pour of this for $4.
Aaaaand one of these–a strawberry prosecco vodka martini–the TUMS were necessary, too. Because I am 10,000 years old. #reality

Then, for some reason, the bartender decided to make us shots. We did not order these.Â
Which I obnoxiously captioned on Instagram with, “Pretty girls get free shots #fact #amurica” YEAH. In my defense, though, I thought I looked pretty cute for happy hour–definitely ready to pick up some new girlfriends! 
Pictures like these are why people make fun of blogs. Pretty sure that’s true. But I (obviously) am not concerned with being cool at this point in my life.Â

We did not order these. Nor did we pay for them, so I suppose I can’t complain. And also, they weren’t terribly strong, so I didn’t have to stumble home.Â
This was the second time I had been to Cava, and I loved it just as much as the first. The best news of all is that they’re opening one in Columbia Heights, which isn’t far from me at all! Although, I think it’s more of a fast/casual atmosphere, so I might journey to Capitol Hill for Happy Hour anyway. I just like the vibe at that location.Â
i LOVE Cava! I’ve gone there for dinner a few times and have never been disappointed. I’ve never actually gone for hh, which is silly bc its literally 5 min away from me. Will def have to try the strawberry prosecco vodka martini! Glad you had a great 4th!

My secret? I never say no. Any time anyone invites me to do something, even if I don’t feel like it, even if I don’t have a ton of money, even if I’m tired or busy or whatever, I go. It works! And next time, I will make sure to let you know!! Cava is really close to where you work!

When I saw the title of your blog post, I thought poor Roo. Glad that these were the fun kind of shots!! I finally had my first martinis this past weekend. Where had they been all my life!! FYI they were shaken not stirred!!

sooooo much fun. and i am pretty sure i just wiped drool off my keyboard. i love love love making new friendsies. i am from the vantage point of you can never have too many. a lot of my friends are younger then me so its always nice to meet a few that are closer to my age with the same likes, goals, etc. etc etc.
