I Will Not Drink My Feelings

Saturday morning, I got up early and hit the gym for Body Pump and a spin class. I really didn’t feel like going, but I knew I’d feel better if I worked out, yada yada yada . . .

As we all know, I’m not a huge fan of strength training. But since my demon back injury has me sidelined from running, I’ve been doing more of it lately in an effort to do something. Whoever said women can’t bulk up from strength training hasn’t met me. I feel like the incredible hulk. Ugh. Anyway, I will tell you straight up that I 100% phoned it in during Body Pump on Saturday. My shoulders were sore from God-knows-what, and I just wasn’t feeling it. I thought about skipping spinning, but since cardio is what I’ve really been craving, I stayed.

Well.

Spinning? Sucked. Hard. My legs just didn’t want to go, making me feel like I barely got a workout. Oh, and newsflash? Techno music does not motivate me. It makes me want to kill my spin instructor and everyone else in the class. Let it be noted.

Mentally, I just wasn’t there. Where was I instead? Running. Striding along in the early spring sunshine with rainbows coming out of my feet and a giant, shit-eating grin on my face. Because that’s where I really wanted to be.

Naturally, I completely fell apart the instant I left the gym. I guess it makes sense. Today marks the one month mark since I last ran, and I hadn’t cried yet. I suppose it did have to happen eventually. After some encouragement from my mama and texting a bit with my blogging BFF, I felt a little better.

I also went ahead and had some Bailey’s in my coffee just to take the edge off.

Then, I gave myself a St. Patty’s Day-inspired pedicure and took Roo to the park, where she proceeded to attack all the other dogs there with love, completely wearing herself out so she could pass out in the car on the way home. Her little puppy heart cheered me up for sure.

Festive toes

Saturday afternoon/evening was spent celebrating my Irish heritage with friends. Rather than braving the bar crowd, we had a good old-fashioned house party.

I believe it’s safe to say I can no longer do shots. Putting that I my Murtough list (How I Met Your Mother fans–can I get a what what???). I’ll take a green water bottle and party with that. Sorry for Party Rockin’ indeed.

Even though I wanted to stay home and wallow, I powered through and didn’t let myself have a true pity party. Thank God because I’m pretty sure that would have gotten incredibly ugly incredibly quickly.

Since it’s Monday, I should have a meal plan, right? The name of the game this week is Use Up Everything in the Fridge Before You Go Out of Town for Work. We’ll make that a working title until I come up with something shorter, mmmmkay?

Sunday: Grilled Swordfish and Veggies (courtesy of dinner at Mom & Dad’s!)

Monday: leftover swordfish and some kind of veggie

Tuesday: Mushroom Quesadilla with Caramelized Onions (longtime fav–can’t believe I haven’t put this on the blog yet! coming soon!)

Wednesday: Cauliflower Chicken Nuggets and ???

Thursday: BBQ Chicken Panini

Friday: Drinks and apps with the girls

Saturday: out???

  1. I love you…especially for putting some Bailey’s in your coffee ;). I should try that sometime! I never have haha. I’m glad you ended up having a good time on Saturday night! House parties are usually so much more fun than the bar scene. Hope your Monday is a great one pretty lady!

    I drank my feelings on Saturday night and I am still recovering. Apparently I will never learn. EVER. Also, I need someone to come up with a viable work out plan for me because I am just falling to pieces not being able to run. blahhhhhhhhh.     Even worse than techo is easy listening. Like, soft rock. I literally had an instructor play Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose”. SERIOUSLY? It was way more nap time than spin class. As long as the good workouts outnumber the bad ones, it’s okay to have an off day once in a while – and phoning it in is better than not going at all in my book! <3

    At least you powered through! I’m the total opposite — love weight lifting and techno music. I’m doing Couch to 5K right now and listen to …. techno. Although I hate listening to it for weight lifting. You’re party looks fun! Having a house party was a great idea.

    Menu this week is looking like: a chicken pasta casserole, tilapia tacos, leftovers, & a few other random freezer items. The husband will be out of town for most of the week, so I tend to just go with the flow & make kid-friendly meals for the rest of us. :-)

    That comment about techno music during spin is ON POINT. If I can’t sing to it, it ain’t pretty.

    My St. Pat’s Day was started with a long run, followed by a long nap! We went to a friends house for a low key night by the fire. Then came home to a car load of kids getting arrested outside our house for drunkenness. I am waaaaaay to old for THAT $%&@!!!!!

  8. There is no shame in crying! Shoot, I am proud of you for keeping it together for so long (and for surviving a spin class filled with techno!). You are strong, amazing, and will be running again before you know it and I will be cheering you on. I promise that there will be many, MANY finish lines in your future. In the mean time, you are doing the right/smart thing. Puppy love and a drink will do your soul good! Thinking of you and praying that the demon back will be healed soon.

  9. Way to Bailey’s it up. That’s the only way to truly enjoy coffee… or any hot beverage.

    Looks like you had a fab Irish holiday. I’m with you on the shots thing. Don’t think I’ve done one in years because I suck so badly at them. And, if it makes you feel better, I was super excited to get up early on St. Paddy’s Day to pick up 400 diapers at Babies R Us – they had a buy 2, get $25 off special. Woo.
