And To All a Goodnight!

Merry Christmas Eve!

Sorry I’ve been MIA this week. I was so busy finishing up work so I could spend time with family and friends for the holidays, then actually spending the time with family and friends, that I didn’t get the chance to check in. Priorities, right? I’ve been feeling a bit disconnected from my blogging friends, though, so I wanted to say a quick hi before Christmas.

As I mentioned the other day, my knee has been acting up, so I only ran 2 days this week. It feels awkward and weird and I sort of hate it, but I think it’s necessary. I get somewhat crabby when I can’t run, so I’m trying to fight that off with holiday cheer instead of being a Grinch.

Holiday Cheer

On the bright side, not running is forcing me to try some different workouts, which isn’t a terrible thing.
A few weeks ago, I asked Rachael if she wanted to do a “Not So Secret Santa” gift exchange since neither of us works in a “real” office, and I knew I’d need a pick-me-up this week. Luckily, she was up for it, and a package arrived for me on Tuesday!

Inside were all kinds of goodies, but my favorite was definitely the Jillian DVD. Apparently, Rachael had a premonition that I needed a new workout–that, or she just wanted to torture me with more strength training. ;) Either way, it came at the perfect time! Organized into 7 circuits, this works your whole body with supersets. I liked it as much as any girl who hates strength training could! Now I just have to decide who is more terrifying–Jackie or Jillian? I wonder who would win in a street fight???

Terrifying

I also checked out a spin class yesterday morning at my gym. A girl I went to high school with teaches there, and she stalked me on Facebook until I agreed to come! I really did want to go, though, and it was a decent workout. I think I didn’t really push it as much as I could have, or maybe I underestimated myself, because it didn’t feel that hard–I wasn’t even sweating after 20 minutes . . . yeah. But I think that had more to do with me than anything else.

NOT my class

After class, I was chatting with my friend and all of a sudden I felt really nauseous. I started to get a little dizzy, and then my vision got spotty. Thankfully, she noticed right away and made me sit down. In the middle of the floor at the gym. Not my coolest moment, but I sat there and ate a banana and didn’t pass out, so I’d call that a win. I’m not sure exactly what happened, but I’m just glad it didn’t happen while I was driving home!

Truthfully, I’ve been under the weather in a kind of mild way for at least a week, so I’m guessing it’s related. Or hoping so anyway!

Promising I’ll be back atcha with something a little more exciting post holiday! But for now . . .

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!

  1. I want to get back into spin ASAP. And yeah, if you weren’t sweating after 20 minutes maybe the teacher wasn’t pushing the class hard enough because those workouts are killer. I loooove them and can’t wait to find a different gym that offers them.
Have a great holiday, girl! I’m going to need some delicious cookie pictures soon.

I completely feel your pain, not being able to run can be very torturous! I used to have all kinds of knee problems, and don’t anymore so if this persists and you want a non-medical opinion, let me know :) It sounds like you are getting fun workouts in though! I love spinning!

  4. MERRY CHRISTMAS LOVE!!!

Thanks for the little shout out on twitter, made my day :)

I’m stuck at work at the hospital all day today… But tonight I’m going to head over to Tappan’s family’s house for dinner since they live in town (my parents are up in Arlington VA).

I sweat a surprisingly huge amount in spin class, I bet you just got a little dehydrated and your blood pressure got a little low, which led to the dizzy stuff. I always make sure to carry a large water bottle during class to drink up.

Yeah I agree, sometimes it’s good to be forced to take a little break from running and try some different stuff! I had a strange feeling in my foot the other day, so I just did a spin class instead.

Anyway, hope you’re having a wonderful Christmas so far!
