Whew! I made it back to Richmond after a whirlwind weekend! Honestly, this was the best weekend I have had in a long long time. Even though every second of it was busy, it was incredibly rejuvenating to spend time with my dad and just have some fun.
Since we were so busy, I didn’t have the chance to blog about everything we did, but I really want to share, so will you indulge me with a couple of “make up” posts? I knew you would! You guys are the best!
Friday night when my dad got in, we decided to take full advantage of Morgantown’s waterfront and find a place on the river for dinner. Oliverio’s was the winner!
Located right on the water, Oliverio’s is an upscale Italian restaurant with a completely unpretentious feel. Since our table wasn’t ready when we got there, Dad and I saddled up to the bar for some vino.
We shared a bottle of Flora Springs Cabernet Sauvignon. I am a huge fan of big red wine, and this was one of the best I’ve had! I wish I could afford to drink wine this good all the time!
Dad and I sipped our wine and enjoyed the general ambiance of Oliverio’s. Cozy, right?
A few minutes later, we were escorted to our table, where the server immediately brought us fresh, hot breadsticks.
The breadsticks were served with olive oil studded with red pepper flakes and parmesan cheese for dipping.
Oliverio’s has a fantastic menu—fresh pastas, steak, seafood, chicken—it was impossible to choose! We decided to start with a dish that sounded . . . interesting.
Angel Hair Crab Balls
Crab stuffing rolled in angel hair pasta and deep fried, served with tangy honey mustard sauce.
I don’t even know where to begin. These things were incredible. Very lightly fried and not at all greasy, the crispy angel hair gave way to a soft, crab-filled stuffing that was perfectly seasoned. The sweetness of the crab with the tangy honey mustard was to die for. Seriously. I think it might be the best thing I ever ate.
I want another one now!!!
My poor little house salad didn’t stand a chance after that appetizer!
Truly, though, this was actually a really good salad. Very fresh and lightly dressed with red wine vinaigrette.
For my main course, I went for the Mushroom Sachetti, a porcini and portabella filled pasta with homemade tomato sauce and grilled shrimp.
Every part of this dish was perfection! From the fresh homemade sauce, to the delicate, earthy mushrooms in the pasta and the caramelization on the grilled shrimp, this was a winner for sure! A fantastic pre-race meal!
Dad had Linguine with White Clam Sauce, another favorite of mine!
I just had a little taste, but from what I tried, it was a great effort!
The couple at the table next to us was in town for the half marathon as well and offered to snap a picture for us!
What a fabulous meal with one of my favorite people in the whole wide world! We had such a great time. My dad and I always have so much to talk about. Over dinner, he told me that some of the best times in his life were watching my track races in high school. What an amazing compliment! It made me feel so special to know that in nearly 60 years of life, watching me run stood out so much to him. I am lucky to be his daughter, that’s for sure!
What’s the best compliment you’ve gotten from one of your parents?
Whenever I hear my parents tell their friends how proud they are of how all three of us have turned out, makes me really happy. Not only did they do a great job raising us, but we’ve made them proud. The best compliment I think you can get.
so glad your dad could come cheer you on at your race!
I agree! And someday you’re going to be saying the same thing about your little peanut!
That looks like a great time. You are lucky to have such a great relationship with your dad! I’m drooling over your food.
I really am lucky!
Mmmm, sounds like a fabulous meal with your Dad. I’m glad you had a great weekend!
oh my goodness all of that food looks amazing!
I want that crab dish right now mmm mmm
Your dad is so sweet. Some of what you have mentioned about him reminds me a lot of my dad
My parents were always very sweet and complimentary it was just their nature. My dad always used to say that my outfit looked “sporty yet sophisticated” no matter what I was wearing
That is adorable! I love your dad!
Congratulations on your 1/2 marathon again! The best compliment I’ve gotten was from my step-dad. He’s a man of very few words and emotions but when I graduated from MSU this spring he teared up and told me how proud he was.
Awe, that’s too sweet! Love proud papa’s!
You look so happy. And the food seems yummy, however the most I envy is WINE. I would like some of that delish red stuff.
Well, my mom always appreciates my advice on clothes, as for my father – he‘s so proud about everything I do, but the best compliment was that about me being the good driver, even though I‘m kind of crazy behind the wheel.

Driving compliments are important!
My parents have totally turned me into a wine snob! I don’t have the bank account to support my expensive palette, though!

Sorry I somehow duplicated my post
Ok, this sounds creepy, but if you knew my Dad…it totally wasn’t. But one day he told me that if he wasn’t related to me, he’d ask me out on a date. LOL Basically, he thought I was pretty. <3 <3
No, that’s adorable. My dad would say the same thing. Dad’s are great that way!
